GRITS is a highly configurable software product oriented towards the storing information in relation to the tasks that are performed during research projects.This can be at either the postgraduate student level and beyond.

There are a number of different versions of the GRITS system, from Standalone PC and PDA version through to complete Server centralised browser interactive versions. This overview gives you the general idea of the most basic GRITS functionality. For more detailed information about the functionality of the GRITS versions please refer to the individual GRITS product pages.
The basic data areas within the GRITS product include:
- General Project Information
- Literature Reviews
- Meetings
- Research Data
- Notes of any form
- Dictionary and Term sets
- Tasks lists
Where subjects work is involved in a project, such as at a post graduate level, information can also be stored relating to
- Subjects
- Subject details
- Subjects Notes
Through a method of information categorisation GRITS data items can be grouped into related data sets or groupings. This allows related data and subsets of related data, to be stored together as a single set of item sets.
From the inbuilt data Navigator tool the entire data set can be viewed and searched. New items can be add, existing ones editing and items that are no longer needed can be deleted. The Navigator is based around a central user-modifiable data tree. The Navigator tree can display data sets in a number of different ways.
